YOGA & PILATES CLASSES IN CUMBRIA
Whether you would like to move with a little more ease, improve you balance or simply have some time just for you, yoga and Pilates classes can offer many benefits for both body and mind.
About Anna
Yoga, for me nourishes and supports both my body and mind and helps me to find balance amidst everyday life in a busy world. I have been teaching yoga since 2016 and have completed training in Vinyasa Flow, Restorative, Yin and Sustainable Yoga. In 2024 I completed my Pilates training.
My approach within classes often encourages you to explore the concept of ‘less is more’. Expect a warm welcome, to move in a variety of different ways, challenge your balance, discover some stillness and time to celebrate simply ‘being’.
Away from teaching my time is usually spent fell walking and exploring the Lake District.
YOGA
Yoga is for everyone. It brings our mind and body in to the same place at the same time, using our breath. In a busy world where there is a lot of emphasis on doing and achieving, it can be particularly beneficial to spend some time 'being'. Yoga offers us ways to discover balance in both body and mind.
I aim to make my classes accessible to all levels and abilities, exploring movements and poses which can help support our mobility and the movements we use in everyday life. Offering our bodies the opportunity to move in a variety of ways to help us keep doing the things we love with ease.
In classes you will be invited to explore the idea of 'less is more', there will be some elements of challenge, some time for stillness and often some laughter too.
Slow Flow
A slow flow yoga class is the perfect way to take some time just for you, to slow down, rebalance, unwind and restore. Flowing through a series of seated and standing poses and connecting with our breath to find balance within body and mind.
Gentle Yoga
In a gentle yoga class, we move mindfully, explore balance and find some stillness. We explore both seated and standing poses but with less getting up and down from the ground than you might find in a flow class. There will be plenty of options offered to choose the variation of the pose which works for you.
Restorative
Gift yourself time for ‘being’ and embrace the power of stillness. Restorative yoga, uses bolsters, blankets and blocks to fully support your body in the poses, creating space for you to completely relax. Take time just for you, to unwind, rebalance and create space for your whole being to simply breathe.
PILATES
Pilates is a form of low impact exercise which uses slow, precise and controlled repetitive movements to target the whole body in a balanced way with a key focus on strengthening our deep core muscles and promoting balance, posture, strength and flexibility.
Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates, he devised a system of exercise which at the time he called 'Contrology'. The fundamental principles still remain at the centre of all exercises within the Pilates method taught today. These are: Concentration, Breathing, Centring, Precision, Control and Flow.
Pilates is wonderfully adaptable, with the exercises having many different options and levels, so everyone can work at a level which suits them on the day.
Beginners Pilates
A perfect introduction to Pilates. There will be plenty of time to explore each movement so you understand how it feels and ways to modify each movement to suit your body.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have included a few of the most frequently asked questions below, but if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Do I need to book?
Yes. Please get in touch before your first class. This also gives you opportunity to ask any questions you may have before class.
After your first class, yoga classes are run on a drop in basis so you will simply be able to turn up.
Please book your space in advance for Pilates classes. You can do this by letting me know at a class, text or email.
What do I need to bring with me to class?
- A yoga (or Pilates) mat
- Bottle of water
- Blanket and/or Cushion (optional)
I have yoga mats available to borrow, but please get in touch before class if you need to borrow one, to guarantee availability.
What should I wear to a class?
Comfortable clothing you can move easily in.
Yoga is generally practiced barefoot and Pilates either barefoot or with socks (socks with grip on the soles can be useful).
Some classes will involve being still so an extra layer or some cosy socks may be welcome.
I'm not flexible. Can I still do yoga?
Yes, absolutely. Yoga is not about being flexible. You don’t need to be able to touch your toes. We are all beautifully unique and our movement reflects this.
What is most important is listening to your body and doing what is right for you on the day.
